FlipFlops

Unfortunately, for every good there is evil. Gorgeous day, flipflops. The name itself sounds shabby and lazy. Flipflops and Birckenstocks. Ladies (who wear them), usually granola hippie chicks-- Please Manhattan is not a beach (there's one on the west coast) nor is it ancient Acropolis where one is running to an Agora to listen to Socrates debate the authorities of his age.

I have noticed too that most women with flipflops have very manly, ugly, Statue of Liberty feet. So unless, you are on sand at a beach or cafeing or shopping in one of the Meditteranean towns like Capri, Positano, Monte Carlo, Casablanca, or Marekesh, please wear heels or flats by Channel, Burberry, Tory Burch, or Tod's in Spring and Summer. Remain the farer sex and inspire us (gentlemen) with your elegance and feminine beauty 'from head to toe' at all times (except in bed where we would like you to be savage and present) (and no, you can not gain weight even after child birth but if you do you must lose it-- think Heidi Klum) and we shall reciprocate by buying you romantic dinners, opening cab doors, and gifting you with our admiration, appreciation, and gratitude (and in many cases, a large alimony).

I do however dispense amnesty to those ladies with lily white feet, high arches, and impeccable pedicures. Ideally, even then, a ff would have something like a family crest or jewel like decorative on it. Think Jackie O. not Lin Lo. (Lindsey Lohan).

Remember how a few months ago, a high school or college women's volleyball team, was invited to the White House and they all wore flipflops? It was a disgrace and the media all covered it. They were chided for their impropriety. I blame all of it on hip hop culture. Ghetto mentality. Had I had it my way, I would of have sent them all to Guantanamo for week... all expenses paid. Barbarians.

I happen to have a very elegant and fabulous pair of Gucci flip-flops which I pair with linen trousers in the Spring/Summer. being from California I can assure you that flip-flops are acceptable wear whenever it's war enough outside to warrant them.

Shane, you can wear whatever you want. You have class and with class the world is your oyster. Barbie and I adore you. Smart sexy intelligent and intellectual who can party like a rock star. A rarity. Big hug.

The flipflop blog was targeted at women. Men's feet dont turn me on and thus, I have no issue with it. Men care walk barefoot and on all fours if they want and I won't give a shit. I expect women to be sexy and inspiring all of the time. Not misogyny... I expect to be inspired their beauty... the farer sex.

Btw, thank you for your comment. I am honored that you read my blogs from time to time. I read yours almost every day.

Don't know what's wrong with the excerpt. What do you mean? Anyway, it just shows that the level of fashion has gotten so frckn lazy that I have to plead for gals to not wear one of those made in China chinatown flipflops... u know those $5 suckers.

I guess I'm not against all women's flipflops.. just saw some acceptable ones on bloomingdale's website. I queried some girls that I consider fashionable and most of them say that they never wear flipflops. They prefer flats or sandals in Spring and Summer. So, my judgement is not entirely biased. Non-americans, Europeans (especially, Italians and the French and of course, Swedish), Asians, and the Latins consistently have better fashion sense then Americans (Men and Women).

Had a great time yesterday at Kiss and Fly (one of the best places I've been to in awhile-- reminded me of the best times, great music and crowd since the hey days of Cain and Pink Elephant) and B8 as usual. Thanks for introducing me to KNF. Haven't danced so much in months.

So sorry that you lost the phone. It was a crazy nite though. Maybe you left it in the limo on our way to the after party?! Was funny that driver wanted $10 each (Tot. $80) for a 5 block ride. I didn't care. Fortunately, someone still had scruples and said $40! Ha!

Fred,

The fact is that many people look great in flip-flops, both men and women. Don't get too peDANDic, fashion-wise. I think I once even saw AFC in them at the Met. (Museum.) Speaking of that other met, don't miss Satyagraha. I saw it last night and it was unforgettable.

Pierce,

Taste is subjective. I am very subjective. But still, there is a difference between $5 chinatown flip flops (that most of these hippie chicks wear) vs. $200 Tory Burch flip flops or $400 Gucci flip flops. You get what you pay for and if you don't see that then you are blind.

I'm sure Amy wasn't wearing a $5 one. Just rubber, black, and flats? and if she were, she must have been wearing $3,000 Jeoffrey Beene dress to neutralize it. Out of campiness.

Honestly, your views on fashion, I find very pedestrian especially on my blog.

Please blog yourself and I will reciprocate in kind.

I love your pun on "pedestrian." It's the best thing you've come up with since beginning your "emission."

I may be conflating two (or more) stories, but I seem to recall AFC arriving for an assignation with TGD3 all decked-out in a pumpkin-colored, pumpkin-shaped six foot wide couture coat by GB. TGD3 made some sort of comment that it might not be the most appropriate outfit for the "event" planned, and she simply murmured: "You have a VERY limited fashion sense. . ."

I don't usually wear flip-flops, except to the beach, or when I have been warned about the hazards of certain showers. The pair I have is a magnificent red-white-and-blue USA flag pattern from, as I recall, Old Navy, from their post July 4 sale. Even on the most chic Hampton Beaches (SHBC, Indian Wells) somebody ALways looks at them, thinks for a moment, looks me in the eye and says: "Those are cool," or some such compliment. I always wish I had bought a few more pairs. I think they were a buck.

Remember: don't miss Satyagraha.

Satyagraha. How long does that run (i.e. last day)? You know that I am fairly illiterate when it comes to operas. So when you say that you were very impressed and that I should go, I will try my best and read the libretto before I go. Thanks.

As for the 'pedestrian,' yes, that was a good pun for fun. Sardonic.

Also, as I mentioned in the blog and concurred with Shane (btw, I hope that you both get a chance to meet eachother at some point), the flipflop blog was directed at women not men and I also prefaced everything by saying that ffs should be for the sand and the beach, not for the asphalt on Manhattan streets. So, I think it's perfectly appropriate that you wore them at the beach.

When I vacation and am at a beach, I have sandals then go barefoot. That's appropriate. I also wear sandals on hot summer days here in Manhattan. I like it and it's almost a must.

I just have issues with women wearing cheap fliflops. As for the price point, I agree with you that with some thought and decorative colors, ffs at any price point can be quite acceptable.

In fact, it shows signs of erudition that one (you) can buy something (in your case, with red white&blue colors) on the cheap that is good to great. Akin to buying a bottle of $15 vs. $300 wine that is perfectly good to great. I am not a price centric shopper but a visual one and usually (but not always) there is some correlation between the visuals and the price, but again, not always.

In fact, women have the best selections on many of these things. For instance, some $100 Nine West shoes look just as good as some high end Bergdorf shoes (Manolo, Laboutin, Choos, etc.).

So, the blog in essence is for women especially not to be visually lazy. I'm afraid that when women start to dress lazy, men will dress even worse. We are prone to be more lazy then women. I am fearful of that. Then the whole cookie crumbles. Women are muses in my book and if they start to go to sleep on fashion, details, and conversations this dandy will have little to no inspiration outside of art for alas a significant dimension of beauty would have fallen off the edge of the earth. That would be a sad and infamous day.

Btw, Pierce, my blogs are not emmissions but epistles.

I believe Satyagraha plays through the twenty-eighth, about twice a week. No need to read a libretto. Just get there early and read the synopsis, the programm notes and the accompanying sheet. It's less narrative than evocative. It's sort of chanted in Sanskrit, so it's more important to be open to the overall experience than to know what's being said at every moment. Has to be seen to be believed. More info: www.metopera.org
