I don't keep up on it. It keeps up on ME. Hard to avoid it, and what would the point be in that?
Art is art. Let the next generations decide what has lasted and what has not.
As I've said before, there was a lot of shit produced during Mozart's great years. (Not by him, of course.) But Don Giovanni and the Clarinet Concerto will last FOREVER.
You have a treat in store. The clarinet concerto (as far as I know, there is only one) was written in ther last year of Mozart's life; it is a deeply mature work, and has a decidedly elegiac cast to it. To some, the second movement is the most beautiful and profound thing he ever composed.
It is often paired on discs with the clarinet quintet, a lighter and less ambitious work, but with moments of great loveliness. (It is also the source, I'd say, of the melody to "East side. West side, all around the town . ."
Of course, everything is on YouTube these days. I'm sure these are too.
LORD GORING. You see, Phipps, Fashion is what one wears oneself. What is unfashionable is what other people wear. PHIPPS. Yes, my lord. LORD GORING. Just as vulgarity is simply the conduct of other people. PHIPPS. Yes, my lord. LORD GORING. And falsehoods the truths of other people. PHIPPS. Yes, my lord. LORD GORING. Other people are quite dreadful. The only possible society is oneself.

I've liked this one from the first time I saw it. Love the photography, styling and editing. And the tune really swings, doesn't it.
Makes me want to get out my Kanye shades.
I like the fact that you keep up on pop culture and embrace both the classical and the "ridiculous."
Kayne shades... ha! that's a good one.

Never heard a Mozart clarinet concerto. Sounds intriguing.
